Understanding Fence Knots

Fixed Knot

Fixed Knot fence is considered a top of the line product constructed using high tensile wire and a knot that utilizes solid vertical stay wires. The fixed knot increases the vertical strength of the fence and allows for increased post spacing. The knot is a separate piece of wire tightly wrapped around the line wire and stay wire. Fixed knot fence is very resistant to animal damage and is available for a variety of fencing needs.

Forged Knot

The forged knot is created using horizontal and vertical wires that are crimped together. Unlike other fencing knots that are tied, the knot wire of a forged knot fence is then affixed or punched into place using a cold-forged manufacturing technology. Durable, versatile and long lasting, it is the newest innovation in premium ag fencing products.

S Knot

The “S” knot design uses a separate piece of wire that attaches the line wire to the solid stay wire assuring maximum strength and prevents the fence from buckling or sagging. This fence knot design is smooth to the touch so you won’t have to worry about injuries to your animals. The knot’s strength holds up to even the strongest animal or weather impact while maintaining flexibility. This type of wire design is typically found in products advertised as sheep and goat wire and horse fence.

Hinge Joint

The hinge joint is the most common fence knot in agricultural fencing, found on both low carbon and high tensile products. The knot is formed by wrapping the vertical stay wire pieces around the line wire at each intersection. This design can also absorb animal impact without damage and is the most economical knot choice available.
